Widespread heavy rain overnight into the early morning hours led to several flood advisories, closed roads and a tricky commute for drivers on Wednesday morning.
The flood advisories expired by 6:30 a.m., but standing water and flooding could be seen in parts of South Florida, with 2-4 inches of accumulation since midnight.
In Hallandale Beach, authorities blocked off roads due to flooding and advised the community to follow posted barricades and seek alternate routes.
As the morning went on, showers lightened up, but steady rain was persistent for the morning commute for parts of Broward and coastal Miami-Dade.
Several crashes were reported on major roadways, including Interstate 595 in Broward, the Dolphin Expressway (State Road 836) in Miami-Dade and Florida’s Turnpike in both counties. While they did not appear to result in serious injuries, lanes were blocked as authorities responded.
The National Weather Service also urged drivers to use caution. Remember: turn around, don’t drown.

Will it rain today in South Florida?
Some spots inland saw a lot less of the steady morning action, but scattered storms are anticipated again later in the day.
The heavy rain over the short periods could still lead to flooding risks, so drive carefully. Highs look to stay in the mid 80s with clouds and storms around.
Storms are expected to be scattered around the area again Thursday, but the coverage will be a lot more limited as dry air begins to move into the area.

Rain chances do begin to lower as we head towards the weekend, but won’t be completely taken out.
That will be a nice break from the very active pattern that we have been dealing with across the area.
