And it’s well-represented by alumni in South Florida.

We won’t make you wait: the school that made the exclusive list tied for no. 8 is none other than the University of Florida. It also is tied for no. 34 among all national universities.
While the rankings are certainly nothing to scoff at, UF did drop in the rankings compared to the year before, when it sat at no. 7 among all public universities and no. 30 among all national universities.
UF is a public institution in Gainesville, Florida, founded in 1853 that enrolled more than 37,000 undergraduate students as of fall 2025, according to U.S. News and World Report.
Its in-state tuition sits at $6,436, which jumps to $34,616 for out-of-state students.
The next Florida school to appear in the rankings of public universities is Florida State University in Tallahassee, which sits at no. 24.
OK, that’s Florida. But who took the top spots?
Last year’s top two public universities are now tied for the coveted no. 1 spot. They are the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Meanwhile, the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor hung onto 3rd place.
