On a night of mixed emotions ranging from the joy of unveiling another Super Bowl banner to the dread after Sam Darnold’s injury, fans left Lumen Field happy after Josh Jobe’s game-clinching interception on a truly puzzling Drake Maye decision. Dating back to last season, the Seahawks have won 11 consecutive games when including the playoffs. That not only ties a franchise record set by the 2005 NFC champion squad led by Mike Holmgren, it’s also a historic moment for head coach Mike Macdonald. Hired two seasons ago as the youngest coach in the NFL (which he’s no longer, thanks to Kellen Moore and Joe Brady), the 39-year-old Macdonald is now the youngest coach in NFL history to win 11 in a row. His successor has already brought Seattle a second Super Bowl to go along with the one Pete captured over a decade ago. The hope is that Macdonald keeps the winning ways and is here for decades to come.

What could’ve been a disastrous night for the Super Bowl champions after losing Sam Darnold on the first drive of the season turned into a 13-10 win in front of a raucous Lumen Field crowd. Drake Maye went from no sacks and no turnovers through three quarters to taking three sacks and throwing three interceptions in the fourth quarter, including the game-clincher to Josh Jobe when they were comfortably in tying field goal range. Vinod Khosla, the venture capitalist billionaire who bought the Seahawks for $9.612 billion, was in attendance after he and his family held an introductory press conference earlier in the day. As someone who admitted to becoming an NFL fan through the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers, then a fan (and minority stakeholder) of the San Francisco 49ers for several decades, this was Khosla’s first foray into Seahawks fandom as an owner.
