Storms moving through Connecticut have brought down trees and power lines and flooded roadways, forcing road closures in several towns across the state.
Heavy rain and gusty winds prompted flash flood warnings Monday morning. Some warnings have since expired, but showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through the rest of the day.
Here are some of the road closures reported as of early Monday afternoon:
- Naugatuck: Rubber Avenue is closed between Arch Street and Andrew Avenue, and the one-way section of Aetna Street is also closed due to a storm sewer issue. Public Works crews are working to reopen one lane of Rubber Avenue.
- Preston: Watson Road at Route 2 is closed because of water in the road. Firefighters are urging drivers not to drive through it.
- Roxbury: Painter Hill Road at Dorothy Diebold Lane and Apple Lane near Crofut Lane are closed because of downed trees and wires. Officials are reminding residents to stay away from downed utility lines.
- Brooklyn: Route 169 is closed between Mason Road and Anderson Road because of low-hanging wires.
- Chester: Route 154 is closed between Old Depot Road and Railroad Avenue because of downed power lines in the roadway.
- Litchfield: Route 63 is closed between Webster Road and Route 202 because of a tree down in utility wires.
- Kent: U.S. Route 7 Kent Road was closed at Bulls Bridge because of downed wires. It has since reopened.
- Suffield: Route 75 was closed at Hickory Street because of weather-related conditions. It has since reopened.
In Westport, firefighters responded around 6:42 a.m. to Interstate 95 after a large tree fell onto a coach bus, blocking all travel lanes.
The bus driver and 15 passengers were on board when the tree broke one of the bus’s windows. Minor injuries were reported, but everyone declined to go to the hospital, fire officials said. The state Department of Transportation removed the tree from the road.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue through Monday, with additional heavy rain and gusty winds possible in some areas.
