81-year-old man hit by car on Cape has serious injuries, police say

An 81-year-old man who was hit by a car in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, has serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Yarmouth police confirmed a crash involving a pedestrian on West Yarmouth Road around 10:44 a.m. Investigators believe the man was trying to cross the street at the time of the crash.

The man was airlifted to a Boston area hospital for treatment.

Police have filed an immediate threat license suspension for the driver, who did stop after the crash.

The road was closed between Old Townhouse Road and Buck Island Road for investigation but has since reopened.

Aerial footage shows police blocking off an area containing an SUV with damage to its hood and windshield. A single sneaker sits in front of the vehicle.

The Yarmouth Police Department and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has other information is urged to call police.
