Delays, lane closures on I-95 north in Danvers due to dumpsters in roadway

Temporary lane closures were in place on Interstate 95 north in Danvers Friday morning due to debris in the roadway following a chain-reaction crash involving dumpsters, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced.

The closure was expected to remain in place through the morning commute, MassDOT said. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes and avoid the area if possible.

Photos from the scene showed at least two dumpsters in the breakdown lane, with around a dozen police and fire vehicles blocking the highway.

Massachusetts State Police confirm troopers responded around 6:20 a.m. to the multi-car crash on I-95 northbound at Centre Street.

A preliminary investigation shows that a truck carrying multiple dumpsters may have struck the Centre Street overpass, causing the dumpsters to fall into the roadway. It appears another truck then struck one of those dumpsters, and a third car hit that truck.

There were multiple dumpsters in the travel lane, and the right lane was closed as of 8 a.m.

It was unclear if anyone was injured in the crash. Further details were not immediately available.
