Eugene Horsch’s June arrest launched a massive investigation, which led Philadelphia police to believe five women connected to his late father, Raymond “R.C.” Horsch, are dead. Now, the younger Horsch’s trial on unrelated felony charges has been postponed until at least March.
A park ranger stopped Eugene Horsch, 44, in a BMW along the 600 block of Market Street in Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood on June 19, 2026. The stop later led to searches of Eugene Horsch’s home on Chew Avenue, which his father, Raymond “R.C.” Horsch, owned until his death last year.
During the stop, a woman whom police have not publicly identified provided identification belonging to a woman who had been missing since 2023, police said. The park ranger also found credentials indicating Eugene Horsch was a federal law enforcement officer and DEA agent. Authorities later determined the credentials were fake, according to court documents. Inside the vehicle, the park ranger reported finding two handguns and approximately $8,000 worth of illegal drugs.
Following that incident, officials conducted an initial search of the Chew Avenue home, where they found at least one additional illegal firearm, a marijuana grow operation, another fake FBI badge and five urns containing cremated remains, investigators said.
Several searches over the summer uncovered what appeared to be a home laboratory containing various containers of an unknown oily substance, police said.
In July, a federal grand jury indicted Eugene Horsch on charges connected to false credentials and owning a firearm as a felon.
Police have connected at least seven missing women to the property and recovered more than 1 million photos and videos from inside the house they said belonged to R.C. Horsch. All seven women appear in the files, and evidence developed so far has investigators to believe five women are no longer alive.

His attorney asked a federal judge for more time to prepare the case because of his caseload.
As of Tuesday, the trial was scheduled to begin on March 22. He remains in federal custody.
Following his client’s arrest, Eugene Horsch’s attorney, Jerome Brown, said Eugene Horsch had no knowledge of what was in the home’s basement and believed writings found inside the property that referenced serial killer Ted Bundy belonged to R.C. Horsch. Brown has not responded to repeated requests for comment.
