
Two suspects fleeing authorities died early Tuesday after they crashed and their car burst into flames at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.
The two suspects were stopped by Napa County sheriff’s deputies just after midnight on Highway 12, just east of Highway 29, in the Napa area, the sheriff’s office said. A reason for the traffic stop wasn’t immediately known.
At some point, the driver and their passenger sped off, triggering a pursuit, according to the sheriff’s office.
At 12:17 a.m., the suspects crashed at the Travis Air Force Base visitor parking lot, the sheriff’s office said. Their vehicle immediately burst into flames.
Deputies hopped out of their vehicles, grabbed their fire extinguishers and tried to knock down the flames, but the suspects died at the scene.
The identities of the suspects weren’t immediately known.
An investigation is underway.
