Man dies and another is arrested following crash in Fremont

A man died and another one was arrested following a solo-vehicle crash in Fremont early Saturday morning, the police department said.

Police said they responded to a report of a solo-vehicle crash in the area of Grimmer Boulevard, between Irvington and Carol avenues, at around 1:42 a.m. There they found two men, who were the driver and passenger of a Dodge Challenger SRT.

Authorities report the passenger died at the scene and the driver was taken to the hospital.

According to the police department, a preliminary investigation suggests the Dodge Challenger SRT was traveling southbound on Grimmer Boulevard at a very high rate of speed when it approached a curve in the roadway. The vehicle then lost control and crashed into a series of traffic barriers on the outside of the curve, authorities said.

Police said the driver was later arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and booked into Santa Rita County Jail.
