NBC Bay Area spoke with the family of the man killed on Friday when he was hit by the driver of an SUV trying to park in San Francisco’s Chinatown.
The family said 49-year-old Cutberto Zamora worked tirelessly to provide for his family and was always there for his two children and his wife of 21 years.
They are still in shock that a driver attempting to park in Chinatown lost control of the SUV and hit and killed Zamora who was in the area installing flooring in an upper unit.
His 20-year-old son and his wife say they are devastated. They said they lost a funny, loving man who would do anything for his family.
“He was the hardest working man, every day he would wake up early and work all day just to provide for us. He was wonderful, always optimistic,” the victim’s son Diego Zamora said.
“I never think it could happen. Even in my worst nightmares, I never think it could happen. I loved him a lot,” the victim’s wife Alberta Martinez said.
Diego said one of his fondest memories of his dad is how proud he was that he started at UC Berkeley and became the first in the family to go to college.
Zamora also leaves behind a 14-year-old daughter.
Zamora’s wife said because her husband was the sole provider for their family, she doesn’t know how they will make ends meet.
The SUV that hit and killed her husband also hit another pedestrian who survived. San Francisco police are still investigating the crash.
