Former NFL star Antonio Brown will accept a plea deal after being charged with attempted second-degree murder in connection with a shooting following a celebrity boxing event in Miami last year, his attorney said on Wednesday.
In a statement, Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said the plea deal offered by prosecutors was will “dramatically reduce the criminal charge against him and result in probation rather than a prison sentence.”
Brown is accused of opening fire during an altercation following the celebrity boxing event in Miami in May 2025. Prosecutors allege Brown fired two shots at another man, with one of the bullets grazing the victim’s neck.
He had pleaded not guilty and maintained that he acted in self-defense.
“He is not accepting this agreement because he suddenly agrees with the State’s allegations,” Eiglarsh said. “He is accepting it because the State made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. There is a profound difference between believing you can win a case and deciding that you and your family cannot afford to spend another year, or potentially several years, wearing an ankle monitor and fighting it.”
Brown was facing up to 30 years in prison, including a 20-year minimum mandatory sentence if he was found guilty.
He will appear in court on Sept. 30, where he will officially accept the plea deal, Eiglarsh said.
