New York Gov. Kathy Hochul leads Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman in the race for governor, according to a new Siena Poll.
The poll, published Wednesday, has Hochul, a democrat, winning against Blakeman, a republican, 50-41%. The new figure is slightly up from the 49-39% last month.
The poll found that two-thirds of voters think Hochul will be re-elected although only half of the voters say they support her.
“Given a nine-point race, it might seem surprising that two-thirds of voters think Hochul will win. On the other hand, voters haven’t elected a Republican governor in 24 years, and there is that two-to-one Democratic enrollment edge, so it may not be surprising that more than one-third of Republicans think Hochul will win, as do 61% of independents, although only 39% of independents currently plan to vote for her,” Siena pollster Steven Greenberg said.
While this is a local election, the influence of the president is seen as impacting the road to the election, according to voters polled, with 51% saying that President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Blakeman will have a negative impact for Blakeman’s run.
However, 50% of voters say that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s support of Hochul will be positive for her.
The poll also touched upon different New York-centric topics with national interest, including revealing that 74% of New Yorkers oppose Trump renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America. Sixty-three percent of those polled also oppose large data centers in their area.

It is strongly opposed upstate, 75-20%, and downstate, 76-18% in New York City and 70-20% in the downstate suburbs” Greenberg said regarding the Lake Ontario renaming saga.
Meanwhile, the poll of New York State voters, also showed that Democratic Attorney General Letitia James leads (52%) over republican Saritha Komatireddy (39%), which is down from the 54-36% polled in August.
