Travelers planning on taking a direct flight from Newark Liberty International Airport to Lima, Peru next year may find themselves out of luck.
United Airlines is suspending its direct flights from Newark to Lima effective March 27, 2027.
In a statement, United said: “We make regular adjustments to our flight schedule based on seasonality, demand and other market factors.”
While this change in service will impact travelers, United is increasing its service from George Bush Intercontinental Airport to Lima to two flights daily effective March 27, 2027.
The news may come as a shock to many in the tri-state area given that there is a large Peruvian population in Northern New Jersey and Newark is the only airport in the area that offers direct flights to Lima, since neither JFK and LaGuardia airports offer direct flights to Lima and there are currently no plans to do so in the near future.
The Newark to Lima route has been in service since 1996 first via Continental Airlines, before Continental merged with United in 2012, records show.
