When Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl addressed the status of attacker Arijon Ibrahimović on Thursday, the club executive could have inadvertently created an issue with the youngster.
According to a report from Sport1 journalist Stefan Kumberger, Ibrahimović was taken aback by Eberl’s statements on the situation.
“Ari played a very good season in Heidenheim. We liked what we saw and how he developed,” said Eberl. “He got plenty of game time in preseason with us — but, now we can see that it could be difficult for him. That’s why we said: ‘Okay, if there’s something interesting for both parties, then something might be done.’”
The news came as a shock to Ibrahimović, who might not be inclined to play ball with the Bavarians on a move:
According to SPORT1 , the player is extremely irritated by Eberl’s statements. His agent, Roman Rummenigge, is also taken aback, as such a clear public statement from the club was not agreed upon.
The trend is therefore clear: Ibrahimovic currently sees little reason to agree to a short-term departure and could be stubborn. Especially since his contract was only extended until 2028 a few weeks ago – also in the belief that he would get a real chance of playing time at FC Bayern . Both coach Vincent Kompany and sporting director Christoph Freund had given him positive signals in this regard – also publicly.
A sale would certainly fit with Bayern Munich’s current strategy. With players like Jonah Kusi-Asare, Wisdom Mike, Lovro Zvonarek, and others, they are currently selling a conspicuously large number of players they themselves developed.
Ibrahimovic, whose market value is around ten million euros, could bring in further funds. A sale would boost Bayern’s coffers and bring them closer to their goal of breaking even in the transfer market.
But the player would also have to cooperate – and that is currently completely open.
Stay tuned, this story could take even more turns — if true.
