The road to European glory begins to take shape today as Bayern Munich prepare to learn their opponents for the 2026/27 Champions League league phase. The draw takes place in Monaco at 18:00 CEST, with 36 clubs being divided across four pots.
Bayern Munich enter the draw as a Pot 1 team and have the highest UEFA club coefficient in the competition. That guarantees two opponents from each pot, meaning Bayern Munich will face eight different clubs across the league phase.
There are plenty of heavyweight possibilities. Bayern Munich could be drawn against European giants such as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona or Atlético Madrid from Pot 1, while Manchester United, Aston Villa, Porto and Sporting CP are among the notable options in Pot 2.
The new league phase will provide a demanding test, with Bayern Munich needing to finish in the top eight to secure automatic qualification for the Round of 16. Teams finishing ninth through 24th will have to navigate a playoff.
After reaching the Champions League semifinals last season, Vincent Kompany and his squad will be aiming to take another step forward.
The draw will reveal Bayern Munich’s first major European challenges of the new season — and potentially offer an early indication of just how difficult the road to the final in Madrid could be.
