A man was sentenced for his involvement in the 2022 deadly shooting of Philadelphia Parks and Recreation employee Tiffany Fletcher.
Officials said on the afternoon of Sept. 9, 2022, officers responded to a call for a person with a gun at the 4700 block of Brown St in West Philadelphia.
When officers arrived, officials said they found Fletcher, 41, with gunshot wounds to the right and left sides of her body. She was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
It was found that Fletcher had been caught in the crossfire at the Mill Creek Playground when teens began shooting at each other.
Investigators were able to recover surveillance video from that day of two teens with handguns inside the Mill Creek Recreation Center yard. More surveillance footage from a different angle showed the two boys fleeing from the 47th Street side of the recreation center into the community center’s rear parking lot, then continuing to flee eastbound on Fairmount Street.
Later, Kee was identified as one of the suspects; he was 17 years old at the time of the shooting.
Further witness testimonies placed Kee in the area of the 4700 block of Brown Street, running from the recreation center towards 47th Street with a handgun in his hand, officials said.
Officials said Kee pleaded guilty in a non-negotiated plea to murder in the third degree, along with related offenses. He has been sentenced to 12.5 to 25 years with 5 years probation.
As reported by NBC10 newsgathering partner KYW Newsradio, Kee’s co-defendants, Makie Jones and Malik Flegler, pled guilty in 2024 to third-degree murder. They were sentenced to 10 to 25 years and 12.5 to 25 years’ imprisonment.
“Tevin Kee will serve many years behind bars, alongside his co-defendants, for the violent crime he participated in,” ADA Jeff Hojonowski of the DAO’s Homicide and Non-Fatal Shootings Unit said in a news conference. “I want to thank the Philadelphia Police for their investigation. I also want to thank Tiffany’s family who was incredibly instrumental in helping us throughout the prosecution.”
“The loss of Tiffany Fletcher was not only a major blow to her family, but a blow to the Mill Creek and larger Philadelphia community,” District Attorney Larry Krasner said. “Tiffany was an advocate who worked at the recreation center to serve her community. She did not deserve to have her life taken in such a senseless way.”
Fletcher, a mother of three, had just started working at the recreation center that spring. She served as a pool maintenance attendant and had agreed to continue working there through the summer.
The center was less than two blocks from her home, where she lived with her family.
Mill Creek Recreation Center has been renamed Tiffany Fletcher Recreation Center in honor of Fletcher’s life and legacy.
