Bystanders resuscitate teen at San Mateo County beach

Good Samaritans resuscitated a teenager who appeared to have drowned at San Gregorio State Beach in San Mateo County on Sunday, according to Cal Fire.

First responders were called to the beach south of Half Moon Bay on a report of an 18-year-old found unconscious in the lagoon area, Cal Fire said. Authorities believe the person had been submerged in water for a minimum of two minutes and was found unresponsive and not breathing.

“Thanks to the immediate action of quick-thinking bystanders who called 911 and started early Bystander CPR, the patient regained breathing and consciousness prior to the arrival of first responders,” Cal Fire said.

Multiple agencies arrived at the scene and the patient was transported to the hospital, where they were reported in stable condition.
