Police received multiple calls reporting a sideshow involving more than 100 cars and spectators, some throwing fireworks, early Sunday morning in Vallejo.
After 2 a.m. Sunday, a large group of cars and people came out on Georgia Street and Columbus Parkway.
Police say as officers converged on the group several people threw fireworks at responding patrol units. That was after police received calls about a sideshow with more than 100 cars.
Police say by 3 a.m. in the morning, the groups in the sideshow left the city. Vallejo police say they have seen a significant reduction in sideshow activity this year compared to prior years. They attribute that to a coordinated response with allied agencies – as they had overnight – and proactive enforcement efforts. They say there have been about six recorded sideshows in 2026.
Marta lives in the area and says it was frustrating.
“People with phone and everything, going in circles and the smell, loud, it sounds like they’re doing fireworks or something, but it was very scary, I have two pets which they got very very scared, it’s awful,” she said.
Other neighbors also said that, when this happens, they can’t rest.
“They have fireworks. You see how hot it is? We got bushes, there is no houses behind me, they can spark a fire,” Carolyn said.
Police say they understand the frustrations illegal sideshows cause.
“These events create significant safety risks for the participants the spectators our residents and the motorists who are not involved, the Vallejo Police Department remains committed to addressing side shows,” they said.
