It’s been three weeks since Ashley Tisdale published an essay in The Cut announcing her departure from her “toxic” mom group; two weeks since the husband of toxic mom group member Hilary Duff mocked Tisdale’s essay, and a few days since toxic mom group member Meghan Trainor began posting silly little TikToks suggesting she knew nothing about any of this.
But finally, the toxic mom group member we’ve all been waiting to hear from has weighed in. Kind of. Barely. She actually didn’t address it at all, just made some cryptic comments about friendships.
Regardless, Mandy Moore has spoken. And I am licking up the crumbs of her carefully-navigated and PR-managed podcast interview like a stranded brown bear scraping for ants in the Mojave desert.
Appearing on Cameron Rodgers’ Conversations with Cam podcast, Moore discussed how some of her friendships have changed as her kids have gotten older.
“Do you feel like you have seen a friendship sort of take a different course?” Moore asked Rogers, before continuing, “I have friends who have kids that are older, let’s say. And I have found that the people I am closest with in my life right now are people who are kind of at the same chapter of their lives as parents.”
Moore shares three kids, August “Gus,” 4, Oscar “Ozzie,” 3, and Louise, 16 months, with husband, Taylor Goldsmith. But Tisdale also has a four-year-old, Jupiter, and a one-year-old, Emerson, with her husband, Christopher French. So, by Moore’s own logic, this should mean she and Tisdale are fine? Right?
But Moore continued: “Like, we have kids the same age and I’ve had to sort of mourn in a way, not the loss of those friendships, but like how they’ve, they’ve changed.” Hm. Alright!
We actually had more information about Moore and Tisdale’s relationship before this podcast. Tisdale no longer follows Moore (or Duff) on Instagram; Moore, however, still seems to follow Tisdale. Also, on January 7—one day after Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, posted his scorched Earth Instagram at Tisdale —Moore praised him on Instagram.
Koma posted a video of Moore performing “Candy” at a benefit for the Los Angeles wildfires, which Moore reposted with the caption: “This feels incredibly fitting as @matthewkoma happens to be one of the most talented and generous humans I’m lucky to know (he literally gave my family a place to stay one year ago today when we evacuated). Love you, MB!!”
So, thanks for…not much, Mandy. I’ll guess we’ll have to keep waiting for the inevitable (I hope!) Ryan Murphy toxic mom group miniseries.
