Pedestrian struck by Red Line train at Berwyn station
A person was struck by a CTA Red Line train Jan. 7, 2026 on the North Side.

Red Line and Purple Line trains are on the move again but bypassing the Berwyn station after a person was struck by a train there on Wednesday morning in Edgewater.

Circumstances around the incident weren’t immediately known — including the condition of the person struck — but a bus shuttle was operating between the Howard and Belmont stations, CTA said.

Chicago police responded to a call of service at the Berwyn station, 1119 W. Berwyn St., but didn’t release further details.

Trains were on the move as of 8:40 a.m. but were bypassing the Berwyn station. Earlier, service was been suspended on the Red and Purple Lines between the Belmont and Berwyn stations, a CTA alert said.

CTA said crews were "working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible."
