A six-goal performance, a place in the next round of the DFB-Pokal, and plenty to be happy about—but Aaron Danks was quick to acknowledge that Bayern Munich had to work for it.

Despite the emphatic final score line, the interim head coach stressed that the DFB-Pokal clash was far from straightforward, particularly in the first half, when Magdeburg made life difficult for Bayern’s pressing game.

“It was a really good night for us. It was a difficult game. In the end, 6–1 is great, but before that, it felt very different. It was really difficult to press them. We had more control in the second half and had more options as well. I’m really happy, but it was by no means easy today,” said Danks (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Spoken like a true head coach — Danks might be ready for the big chair. Yes, Bayern Munich ultimately found another gear after the break, gaining greater control and creating more options to break down FC Magdeburg, but there was never really a doubt about the outcome.

The ultimate result was a convincing victory. The job is done, Bayern are through, and the focus now turns to Saturday’s Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund.
