Bayern Munich outlasted FC Magdeburg in the second round of the DFB-Pokal with a 6-1 victory in front of the home crowd at the Allianz Arena. Bayern received goals from five different players and assists from five different players as well. Magdeburg’s goal was the result of a very lucky deflection off Hiroki Itō that froze Jonas Urbig and flew perfectly into the far side of the net.

In the postgame interview (via @iMiaSanMia), Jonathan Tah offered some insight into Magdeburg’s strategy and how Bayern countered those tactics.

“It’s never easy, even though it looks like it from the outside,” said Tah. “It’s always a lot of hard work. And the way our opponents tried to play today, they were brave. They tried to do things with the ball rather than simply sitting deep and hoofing it long. That’s why we gradually found our rhythm, and at some point, the momentum shifted in our favour. Regardless of who’s on the pitch, when I look at the players who came on towards the end, [David Santos] Daiber scoring the goal and [Tim] Binder coming on, it shows that we stick together as a team and that everyone is ready to deliver when called upon. That’s something you have to work for in training. It makes me happy to see that, despite having players missing and the coach being absent at the moment, we’re still able to produce performances like this on the pitch.”

Bayern’s chemistry and team unity continue to be a repeating theme in player interviews. The team seems to genuinely enjoy playing with each other and battling together.
