Good weather for Black Friday shopping in Boston, but rain, snow could arrive soon

Hope you’re recovering from the Thanksgiving food coma and able to snag some good Black Friday deals today! Weather-wise, it’s not a bad deal.

It stays dry today but the winds pick up. Wind gusts could reach 40 mph by the afternoon — this is the type of wind that could jolt you around a bit while you’re driving. Wind chill temperatures will range from the 20s to the 30s across New England.

Saturday is still dry, but the cold hangs on. Daytime temperatures will be hovering at or slightly above 40. This could tie for our coldest day so far this month at Logan airport, when the temperature only hit 41 on Nov. 11 and again on Nov. 23.

There’s a bubble of warm air on Sunday, with our temperature shooting up to 51. And it won’t be as windy, either.

It remains dry right up until the tail end of the weekend. By Sunday evening, a quick shot of rain rolls through. It won’t amount to much, likely around 0.25″ for Metro Boston. But any rain is welcome at this point — we’re running dry for November. In fact, for all but two months of the year, we’ve registered below-average precipitation at Logan.

The cold returns on Monday. With cold air in play, our next weather maker could drop some snow. For that, we look to the northern Gulf coast, where a storm really gets going in that zone early next week.

As it moves north and east, the northern flank of the storm could brush us with snow on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, giving Boston its first snow of the season. At this point, it looks like we’re right on the rain/snow line.
