A record number of people applied to run in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon this year, organizers said.
The annual race “continues to see unprecedented interest,” according to organizers.
More than 200,000 people applied for the 48th year of the 26.2-mile race that is set to take place in just a few weeks on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Only 55,000 of those applicants were selected to participate, though that number still marks a record-breaking field.
Another historic moment for the marathon this year is the introduction of hydration gear refill stations along the course.
Four refill stations, provided in partnership with water services business Culligan International, will be located along the 26.2-mile course to help reduce plastic waste while keeping participants hydrated.
Here’s where participants can find the refill stations:
- Aid Station 4 (Mile 5.7)
- Aid Station 7 (Mile 10.1)
- Aid Station 12 (Mile 15.7)
- Aid Station 16 (Mile 20.3)
Chicago is the first Abbott World Marathon Major to officially offer personal hydration refills on the course, officials said.
