Drivers planning to use Joliet’s Ruby Street bridge on Tuesday evening were urged to find alternate routes after the bridge was closed, leading to “significant traffic congestion,” police said.
The Jolice Police Department posted about the closure on Facebook at 4:22 p.m., saying the bridge was out of service, and the roadway was closed to traffic. Officers were called to assist with traffic control and ease congestion.
Drivers were advised to expect delays while traveling through the area.
As of Tuesday evening, it wasn’t immediately clear when the bridge would reopen.
