Four juveniles were apprehended following a police pursuit after officers spotted a vehicle sought in connection with a deadly shooting, Waukegan police said.
At around 7 p.m., 911 dispatchers received a call of shots fired in the 700 block of Lincoln Street. Authorities said a victim arrived at a nearby hospital after being shot several times, and multiple shell casings from different calibers of weapons were found at the scene.
The victim was listed in critical condition and later died at the hospital.
Following the shooting, officers spotted a white Nissan vehicle that was believed to have been involved in the incident. Police said the chase lasted around an hour, with several suspects jumping out of the Nissan at various points.
State troopers eventually brought the pursuit to an end in Waukegan, police said. Four juvenile suspects from the vehicle were taken into custody.
Police said investigators located evidence related to the crime at two locations, including two firearms.
Police said the incident was isolated, and there was no risk to the public.
The investigation remained underway as of Tuesday evening.
