The Biggest Question Marks from the Emmys

Monday night’s Prime-Time Emmy Awards saw Matthew Rhys making history, Jean Smart winning her fifth statuette for the final season of Hacks, first-time host Mariska Hargitay attempting an opening number, Emilia Clarke speaking High Valyrian seven years post-Game of Thrones, and an incredible Zendaya pixie-cut moment.

Apart from The Pitt and Widow’s Bay cleaning house in their respective categories (and the awful reminder that a world without Catharine O’Hara still sucks)… I have a lot of lingering questions about last night’s events, though. Namely: 

Are Zendaya and Tom Holland not actually married?

Or is Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach the internet’s biggest troll? If you recall, Roach sparked the initial frenzy over whether the couple got secretly married during her press tour for The Drama. Since then, Holland openly referred to Zendaya as his wife, and tabloids reported in August that the couple hosted a private wedding celebration at a luxury estate in Surrey, U.K. Case closed, right?

Maybe not. Last night, when making red carpet press rounds, Roach said, “I actually lied. They haven’t been married. They haven’t had an official ceremony yet. It’s going to happen after the Dune press tour.” (Me when I lie.)

I’m tired. Wake me up when it’s time for Dune 3.

What was going on with Shailene Woodley’s red carpet look?

After her first Emmy win last week at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony, and following the drama of her now-iconic quote, “I gotta go fuck this guy,” Woodley had all the potential to deliver a slay. But she showed up in this Balenciaga FW26 Couture look…

Swift was NOT at the Emmys—she was preoccupied watching the Chiefs game with Tom Cruise—but she was featured in a forgettable Law and Order: SVU pre-tape with Hargitay.

The Swifties think it’s an Easter egg for Debut “Taylor’s Version.” I say it’s tired television.

Should Meg Stalter get a mercury poisoning test?

The Hacks supporting actress showed up at the Emmys… as an Emmy. 

And at the end of the night, Stalter was awarded to Matthew Rhys.

Did Woody Harrelson think he was in Widow’s Bay?

As the cast and crew of Widow’s Bay took the stage to accept their statuette for Outstanding Comedy Series, Harrelson—who presented the award—thought it appropriate to stay on stage and accept the award along with the production.

Can you blame him? It looks like a fun crew. Maybe he is trying to network his way into season 2.

Where was Keke Palmer?

She was expected to present the Outstanding Director for a Comedy Series award but was a no-show, TMZ reports.

Why the hell were the Emmys on a Monday night?

Something about Sunday Night Football? That’s stupid as hell. There once was a time when we had channels. And different channels showed different things. Imagine that.
