Jenkintown book lovers are getting an old friend back.
Barnes & Noble is returning nearly 14 years after closing its former Jenkintown bookstore and the new location will be right across the road from its old home.
The more than 20,000-square-foot bookstore will officially open at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Noble Town Center at 905 Old York Road. The store is taking over the former Bed Bath & Beyond space next to Ross.
On opening day, local author K.L. Walther will cut the ribbon and sign copies of her most recent book titled “The Summer of Second Chances.” Costume character Biscuit the Dog will also make a special appearance and host story time events over the weekend.
“The new Jenkintown bookstore is emblematic of the renaissance of physical bookstores, and especially that of Barnes & Noble,” organizers wrote in a statement.
The original Jenkintown Barnes & Noble opened in 1993, the year the bookseller opened 85 stores. It closed 20 years later in 2013.
Now the beloved store opens again as one of 60 new Barnes & Noble stores to open in 2026, and one of 180 stores to open in the last 3 years.
For the Grand Opening, organizers said Barnes & Noble Premium and Rewards Members will earn double stamps on all purchases made between Sept. 16th and Sept. 20th.
Everyone who visits the new store during the grand opening will have access to exclusive deals, like $50 off any NOOK device. Customers can also save 40% on all DVD, Blu-ray, and 4k Ultra HD movies, according to organizers.
“There is a particular joy to a new Barnes & Noble bookstore reopening in a community to which it had long belonged,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “We open in Jenkintown a significant bookstore, excellent of course for its books, and also for the toys, games, vinyl, newsstand and so much more in which the bookseller excels. Our booksellers could not be more proud of their new bookstore.”
Store Manager, Angelica Casner, said, “I’m thrilled to bring a bookstore back to the Jenkintown community and create a welcoming gathering place centered around our shared love of books. We want this to be more than a place to buy books—it will be a gathering place where neighbors can connect through local author events, book clubs, and shared ideas. We’re passionate about creating a true third space for Jenkintown, shaped by the people who call this community home.”
