A 67-year-old New Jersey man has been charged with the murder of his wife after, officials said, he was found with a knife protruding out of his chest at the scene of his wife’s slaying in their home on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026.
According to police, William Garvin, 67, of Barnegat Township, New Jersey, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Eileen, after officers found them both in their home along Windward Drive following a report of domestic violence at about 6:30 p.m. on Labor Day.
Responding officers, officials said, entered the home to find Garvin seated in a chair “with a knife protruding from his chest” while they also discovered Eileen Garvin’s body lying on the floor.

Garvin was taken to a nearby hospital, officials said, where he was listed in stable condition.
An investigation has led officers to believe Garvin’s wounds were self-inflicted as, police said, he is believed to be responsible for his wife’s death.
However, officials did not immediately say how Eileen was killed, nor did they detail the circumstances that may have lead to her death.
Garvin has been charged with murder and, as of Wednesday morning, he was still hospitalized following this incident.
But, police said, he will be taken to Ocean County Jail upon his release from the hospital.
