Wiener, Wiener, the Secret Service’s Reportedly Snacking on Some Taxpayer-Funded Dinners

Welcome back to Monday Barf Bag.

Yes, OK, fine, “dinners” is… a bit of an exaggeration. Because, like nachos and jacket potatoes, “hot dogs” count more as a snack than a meal. Because, well, if you know, you know.

Unless, that is, you actually enjoyed your Labor Day Weekend, avoided the headlines, and thus have no idea what the hell I’m talking about. To which I regret to inform y’all, a new report by Forbes on Monday converged Trump’s taste for hot dogs, golf, and grift into some horrible triad of one of the president’s most asinine habits. Apparently when he frequents Trump National Golf Club in Lowes Island, Virginia, he likes to treat his Secret Service members with hot dogs—only to later stick the agency with the bill. Welp. Can’t spell embezzlement without (most of) glizzy!

Specifically, the report points out how Trump can’t pass a concessions stand at the 11th hole without getting his medically questionable hands on some dogs—to the point that the club’s actually started a Secret Service account to regularly charge the agency. As a former club employee told Forbes: “He has this very weird, very odd pride about how good the hot dogs are.” “The chef has to be out there. And he’s like, ‘Chef, get everyone a hot dog—all these guys.’” Aw. Guess Natalie Harp was too busy picking up all those golf balls to get in on the treat.

Apparently, a single Trump visit can constitute about 30 golf carts full of agents, requiring club staff to prepare about 50 hot dogs every time they’re expecting the president. Forbes doesn’t include in its reporting how much the bill ends up being, but Google tells me that Trump’s clubs can have hot dogs ranging from $10 (in Philadelphia) to $25 (in Mar-a-Lago) to a whopping $45 (in Miami) for a “$Trump Dog.” And technically, Secret Service agents aren’t allowed to accept gifts from the person they serve—making the workaround here for the club, owned by Trump, to directly bill the agency. Because what’s another drip in the grift-bucket for the Service, which saw hundreds of millions of dollars in its budget reportedly redirected into paying for Trump’s dumb ballroom?!

All this, BTW, adds to an overarching, disturbing picture Huffpost painted back in November, which projected Trump’s golfing habit to cost more than $300 million in taxpayer dollars throughout his second term—of which he’d already then spent more than $71 million. Now, now, let’s be frank. This idiot really isn’t cutting the mustard.
