In True 2011 Fashion, Pink Is Crashing Out Over Macklemore

A lot of people are Big Mad at Macklemore after he said “Free Palestine” while opening for Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour at MetLife over the weekend, and one of those people is Pink. (Another is Michael Rappaport, but we don’t have to talk about him.) In case you missed it, Macklemore took time out of his set to share his views on Gaza and criticized the Israeli government, saying, “One of the reasons I wanted to come on this tour was because I wanted to stand up here on stages and stadiums across America and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart: Free Palestine.”

The 43-year-old rapper then went on to say, “To all my Jewish brothers and sisters: criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace; love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality.” But reader, if you can believe it, some people still definitely took it as a criticism of themselves.

​The Israeli-American Council (IAC) launched a petition calling for the rapper to be removed from Ed Sheeran’s remaining tour dates (so far, Sheeran has not responded to these calls), and the Instagram account @Stop_Antisemitism posted this:

Enter Pink, who has never shied away from making her political opinions known. The singer reposted @Stop_Antisemitism’s post to her Instagram story, which fans took to mean she agreed with the post’s sentiments about Macklemore and Gaza. The backlash was swift. Across social media, supporters of a Free Palestine criticized Pink for her stance, with some calling for boycotts of her work.

And how did Pink respond? With a good ‘old Instagram crashout. Since the start of the backlash, Pink has posted ten (10!!!) memes to her Story that appear to be referencing the Macklemore situation, most of which are some variation of, “I’m so unbothered. Just look how unbothered I am!”

Sentiments expressed include:

  • “Being liked by everyone is a clown’s job.”
  • “I’m not for everyone, and honestly that’s saved me a lot of time.”
  • “If they want to paint you as the villain, then pose.”

And, for the pro-Israel wine moms out there:

  • “Sometimes I like to think I’m a pretty chill person. Then someone calls Prosecco ‘champagne,’ and I remember exactly who I am.”

Sorry, Alecia, but ten posts in a single evening—some of which are paintings of sassy cats drinking wine—are not giving “unbothered badass” the way you think it is. I guess when it comes to your stance on Gaza, It’s Just U and Ur ‘Gram tonight.
