Looks like the formerly indicted couple Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli are headed back to court—This time, not for wire fraud (hooray!), but for a divorce (noooo!). I guess couples who go to prison together…don’t stay together?
On Tuesday, Loughlin officially filed for divorce from Giannulli in a Los Angeles courtroom, after 30 years of marriage and one year of separation, and, according to documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly, cited irreconcilable differences. But this won’t be the first time this couple appeared side by side in headlines… In 2019, Laughlin and Giannulli were one of 33 sets of parents caught participating in the college admissions bribery scandal. (Felicity Huffman was also amongst the names caught in the sting). Laughlin and Giannulli pled guilty to paying a $500,000 bribe to get their daughters Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose into the University of Southern California as rowing recruits, despite the girls never having set foot on a scull. They even went so far as to fake crew photos for the gambit.
Loughlin was sentenced to two months in prison, two years of supervised release, a $150,000 fine, and 100 hours of community service, while Giannulli was sentenced to five months in prison, two years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and 250 hours of community service. But! At least the little criminal ordeal launched the influencing career of their beloved Olivia Jade, who went on to have such esteemed accolades as being Jacob Elordi’s ex. (which is wayyyy better than being on the crew team, IMO)
After announcing the separation to People last year, reps for Loughlin said, “They are living apart and taking a break from their marriage. There are no legal proceedings at this time.” Well, the time hath come to face the gavel again. Although this time around, it might be easier, since Entertainment Weekly reports Loughlin and Giannulli signed a prenup before their marriage in 1997.
But in more pressing news, Lori has a second announcement: After 7 years of serving time and making reparations, she has decided to return to Instagram (Holding for applause). With the help of her Full House castmates, she made an unsettling compilation video very reminiscent of Gal Gadot’s lockdown-era “Imagine” video.
Who knows what will come next for the actress? Another Hallmark show? Another Full House spinoff? A Netflix true crime documentary? A sequel to iconic Lifetime feature A Mother’s Rage? The options are limited, but marriage is not one of them. ‘Till death—or wire fraud—do us part, as they say.
