Bayern Munich will make a change in goal for Wednesday’s DFB-Pokal clash against VfL Osnabrück, with Manuel Neuer set to be rested and Jonas Urbig expected to take his place between the sticks.
According to Abendzeitung journalist Patrick Strasser (via @iMiaSanMia), Neuer will not feature against VfL Osnabrück as Bayern Munich manages the veteran goalkeeper’s workload. Urbig will take over and get another opportunity to show what he can do for the first team.
For Urbig, the DFB-Pokal provides an important platform. The 23-year-old has continued to develop as Bayern Munich’s backup goalkeeper and will be looking to make the most of his opportunity when the team travels to Osnabrück.
While Neuer remains Bayern Munich’s clear No. 1 when available, matches like this are valuable for Urbig as he continues to gain experience and build confidence. The DFB-Pokal can also provide Kompany with an opportunity to rotate his squad while maintaining competitive standards.
Bayern Munich will be expected to advance against Osnabrück, but Urbig will have his own challenge: keeping a clean sheet and demonstrating that the team can rely on him whenever Neuer needs a rest.
