It didn’t take much time for the White Sox to use the payroll flexibility from the Luis Robert Jr. trade to add to the team.
A source confirmed Friday that the Sox have reached an agreement to sign right-handed reliever Seranthony Dominguez to a two-year, $20 million contract. The signing fortifies the Sox’ bullpen and adds a veteran with a track record of success.
In 2025 with the Blue Jays and Orioles, Dominguez posted a 3.16 ERA with a 30.3% strikeout rate. Adding an overpowering arm was necessary for a Sox bullpen that finished middle of the pack in strikeout rate. Dominguez was in the 94th percentile in whiff rate (33.3%), 94th percentile in fastball velocity (97.7 mph) and 79th percentile in hard-hit rate (36.8).
Getz used the newfound payroll flexibility to address one of the areas of concerns for the team.
“I know when you move on from a Luis Robert, there’s an assumption that a certain position needs to be filled,” he said Wednesday. “But it’s increasing talent on the team to help us win ballgames. That could come in starting pitching, relievers, balancing right-handed vs. left-handed. So we are very open minded and excited in getting to work in being creative and bringing in that talent.”
Dominguez will join right-handers Grant Taylor, Jordan Leasure and Mike Vasil in the bullpen. It’s been a busy offseason on the South Side. The Sox signed Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami to a two-year contract, and added veteran arms Anthony Kay and Sean Newcomb to their pitching staff.
