With a blast of cold air hitting the state this weekend, Gov. Ned Lamont announced Connecticut will be in its severe cold weather protocol for six days.
The protocol will start at noon on Friday and end at noon on Wednesday.
Parts of Connecticut had temperatures as low as -9° on Wednesday morning, with winds making it feel even colder. Wind chills on Saturday morning could be well below zero, and a Sunday snowstorm is likely.
“We’re about to experience some of the coldest weather Connecticut has had in quite a while, and it cannot be stressed enough that temperatures this low can be fatal if someone is outside for too long,” Governor Lamont said in a press release on Wednesday.
Anyone in need of a shelter or a warming center can call 211 or visit 211ct.org to find available locations. Transportation is available if needed.
