Months after a 15-year-old was shot in Little Havana, another teenager accused in the shooting was arrested in August, authorities said.
Donald Centena, 17, is facing several charges, including attempted second-degree murder.
NBC6 is identifying Centena because he is being charged as an adult.
According to Miami Police, on June 14, officers arrived at 675 Southwest 3rd Street after receiving reports of a juvenile who was shot. A tourniquet was then applied to the victim’s leg, and he was taken to the hospital.
An arrest report said that the victim was walking by Riverside Park when two unknown people wearing ski masks and no shirts approached him, and when the victim turned around, he saw one of the suspects holding a gun with a green laser.
When the victim started running, he felt his leg getting hot, which is where he was shot, the report said.
At the scene, the report said, three spent casings were found.
As detectives investigated the shooting, they spoke with the victim at the hospital, who told them he was with another person and their two girls and was unaware of who the suspects were, and though they were going to steal his clothes, the report said.
Weeks after the shooting, detectives interviewed the second victim, and he said the first victim told him who the suspect who shot him was, the report said. The second victim said he believed the shooting was directed toward the first victim.
Detectives then met with the first victim, who wanted to be truthful, and told them that he had been affiliated with the gang Little Havana Taliban, the report said. The victim believed the suspects were from the rival gang APK.
The victim, the report said, previously saw Centena a while ago. He also told detectives that his friend called him and said he saw two females and two males entering a white van after the shooting.
On Aug. 31, detectives spoke with a witness, who said she was hanging out with Centena, the other suspect and another female and towards the end of the night, they went to her home, the report said.
At the home, the report said, Centena and the suspect were talking to an unknown group that was in a gray van, and when the girls went outside, Centena and the other suspect ran to the back of her apartment while wearing masks.
When the girl went up to them, she saw them removing their guns from their waistband, and they started unloading them and putting ammunition in their pockets, the report said.
Centena then asked the witness if there were any cameras in the area, and the group entered the white SUV to take the other girl back home, the report said. The witness then noticed that the other suspect’s hand was bleeding, and when she asked what they did, the suspect and Centena said “We shot at them [expletive].
The two also said they shot at the victim, who was part of the Little Havana Taliban and hit him in the leg, the report said.
Centena was then arrested after being picked out by the witness from a photo lineup.
