Two Delaware State Troopers were injured after a man resisted arrest in New Castle on Saturday evening, police said Sunday.
The incident occurred at around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, in the area of North Dupont Highway and Hessler Boulevard, police said. There, Troopers spotted a Mitsubishi Lancer without a registration plate displayed and conducted a traffic stop, police said.
During the traffic stop, Troopers discovered that the car was not registered and did not have insurance, police said. Troopers also learned that the driver, 39-year-old Nolan Lewis, had multiple warrants out for his arrest, police said.
The Troopers then went to take Lewis into custody, but he resisted, and even continued to kick after he was placed inside the vehicle, police said.
As a result of Lewis’ actions, two Troopers were treated for non-life threatening injuries at the scene and damage was done to personal and Delaware State Police property, police said.
A large knife was also discovered inside the Mitsubishi, police said.
Lewis has been charged with two counts of assault second degree physical injury to law enforcement, as well as other related charges, police said.
As of Sunday night, Lewis remained in custody on $7,000 bond as well as due to his other arrest warrants, police said.
