A mother and a father are demanding justice days after police said their daughter and grandson were stabbed multiple times by their daughter’s boyfriend in Florida City.
James Edward Brock, 57, was arrested Thursday on two counts of attempted murder, an arrest report said.
NBC6 on Sunday spoke with the daughter’s parents, who said both her daughter and her son are in stable condition and are doing well.
They said they’re glad that the suspect was arrested, and now they want justice.
“I forgive you, James, but you gotta be accountable for what you did,” Monique Payne said.
That was the message Payne is sending Brock after he allegedly stabbed her daughter, Shalaunda Heath, and her son, 19-year-old Carlton Newsom.
Payne said Carlton was stabbed on his side, while Shalaunda was injured all over her body and face.
“He was hit three times, close to his lungs,” she said. The stomach, the arm, he tried to get her in the face. Her underarm and her breast.”
According to the arrest report, authorities responded to reports of a stabbing at an apartment building on Thursday and found that Newsome was holding a piece of cloth over his left side with what appeared to be three puncture wounds.
Officials said Shalaunda was trying to leave her apartment when Brock came over and would not let her leave.
At some point, police said, the suspect began stabbing both the mother and son.
Payne and her husband, Robert, said they rushed over after their grandson called them for help.
Robert said his daughter was on the ground.
“She was laying on the ground,” Rober said. “She was unconscious, and she had knots all on her face.”
Police said the family held the suspect down until officers arrived.
Brock appeared in bond court the next day.
“You must stay at least 500 feet away from the victims, their home and school and place of employment at all times,” a judge said.
Brock is being held at the Turner Guilford Night Correctional Center with no bond.
