A pedestrian died Thursday evening after she was struck by a car in New Castle, according to Delaware State Police.
According to troopers, around 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 17, a Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on North Dupont Highway, north of Stahl Avenue. At the same time, a woman walked across the road, directly into the path of the Toyota. The Toyota then struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 57-year-old woman from Wilmington, was taken to a hospital, where she died.
State police did not release the victim’s name because her family has not yet been notified.
The driver of the Toyota, an 18-year-old woman from New Castle, was not injured.
Troopers said the road was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
