Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong made history last week, and Seattle Mariners slugger Randy Arozarena just matched him in incredible fashion.
Cubs fans were surely delighted last week when Crow-Armstrong became just the second player in MLB history to hit a lead-off home run on the first pitch he saw and a walk-off home run in the same game, joining Vic Power in that exclusive club.
What’s more, Crow-Armstrong led off the following game against the White Sox with a home run, giving Cubs fans quite a thrill.
Arozarena saw that feat and decided he wanted a piece of the action.
On Saturday, Arozarena became the third player in MLB history to pull off the unique feat, hitting a lead-off home run on the first pitch he saw and then clobbering a pitch from Cubs closer Jacob Webb to secure a stunning win for the Mariners over Chicago.
On Sunday, Shota Imanaga threw a 2-2 pitch to Arozarena that was blasted over the fence, giving the Mariners a lead and allowing the slugger to match Crow-Armstrong’s heroics against the White Sox.
What remains to be seen is whether Arozarena’s team can match the Cubs’ winning ways in those games, as the Cubs won both games Crow-Armstrong led off with home runs.
