One person suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting in Novato on Tuesday morning that prompted authorities to tell nearby residents to shelter in place, police said.
Officers responded at about 10:10 a.m. to the 400 block of Alameda del Prado, where callers reported hearing multiple shots fired and then a suspect running away from the area, according to Novato police.
A male victim was found with a life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital, police said. Investigators believe the victim and suspect knew each other.
Police are still searching for the suspect, who is described as a Hispanic man standing about 5 feet, 6 inches tall with dark pants and a gray hooded sweatshirt, and wearing a black mask. He was last seen fleeing toward Calle Arboleda.
People on Alameda del Prado and Calle Arboleda were told to shelter in place following the shooting and are still being asked to do so into the afternoon hours. The department said there is a large number of emergency vehicles in the area as well as a helicopter and drone team.
Police said the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol are assisting with the search as well as a canine team from the Vallejo Police Department.
