An hours-long power outage was impacting the Hollywood Hills and Brentwood as a heat wave reached peak temperatures on Saturday.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said the outage began Friday and initially affected 665 customers.
Some neighbors say their power went out around 6 p.m. Friday and lasted for more than 17 hours, leaving families to deal with this weekend’s dangerous heat without air conditioning.
By 11:30 a.m. Saturday, the LADWP said the power was still out for 40 homes. According to the department’s “Power Outage Map,” power was fully restored by 3:30 p.m.
The utility said the outage was linked to an underground circuit that had to be repaired and that crews were working around the clock to fix it.
Those whose power was knocked out overnight say they’re frustrated the outage happened at all.
“It’s kind of sad and can’t believe it’s still happening,” Hollywood Hills resident George Ganim told NBCLA. “They’ve got to fix that, really. It’s been happening a lot.”
NBC Los Angeles reached out to the LADWP for a response to neighbors’ concerns. In part of a statement, the department said, “We understand how disruptive situations like this can be and appreciate our customers’ patience throughout the restoration process.”
The cause of the outage is under investigation.
Heat advisories and extreme heat warnings will remain in place across Southern California through Sunday.
