With Dogust on our doorstep, the time of year when we celebrate the birthdays of shelter dogs, and Clear the Shelters, too, our Fido- and feline-loving focus is on one sobering fact: Rescues and animal groups face some of their greatest challenges during the height of summer.
This means many shelters are packed-to-overflowing, and finding homes for animals becomes urgently important. Not only does the home-needing critter trot off into a home-needing future, but the shelter can also make space for the next animal that will be in their temporary care.
Pasadena Humane is heading into Dogust with a good-hearted goal: Help adult animals find families and people to love, and fast.
The Hot Dogs and Cool Cats Promotion is the uplifting answer to this need, and the goal is also full of hope: The campaign hopes to place animals that are six months or older in homes in the coming days.
Adoption fees will be waived on adult cats and dogs from July 31 through Aug. 9, thanks to the support of the Pet Care Foundation and The Georgia B. Ridder Foundation. Vaccinations (according to age, of course), a microchip, and spaying or neutering are all included.
“Summer is an especially important time for our shelter because we’re caring for so many animals at once,” said Marissa Sunny, Senior Director of Placement and Community Programs at Pasadena Humane.
“Events like this help more pets find loving homes while allowing us to welcome and care for the animals still arriving each day.”

There is truly a bounty of beautiful animals to meet at the Raymond Avenue center: Almost 100 adult dogs and cats are currently being housed at the location.
