Bristol police are investigating after a student was approached by an unfamiliar vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 3:30 p.m., the student was let off her school bus in the area of High Street and Bellevue Avenue. After the student left the bus, she was approached by a person in a small, black SUV, police said. The SUV model isn’t known at this time.
According to police, the driver rolled down the window just enough to speak to the student. She could not see the person inside, police said. The driver reportedly asked if the student “needed a ride,” and the student said no and continued to walk away.
Police said she walked down a shared driveway where the SUV then turned to follow her. It was then that the student ran away, and the SUV left the area.
Bristol police investigators checked the area and found security footage of the incident.
In the video, a small, black SUV about the size of a Toyota Rav4 or similar was driving westbound on High Street towards Main Street before the interaction.
Bristol police ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has surveillance video in the area of High Street to review their footage to see if it captures a clearer image of the SUV. They also ask the driver to contact them.
If anyone has information related to the incident, they’re asked to contact Detective Dudzikowski at ChristopherDudzikowski@BristolCT.gov or call 860-314-4569.
Police also ask parents to review safety with their children and to be aware of their surroundings.
