The Freedom 250 Grand Prix will not return to D.C.’s streets next year, according to IndyCar on Friday.
The IndyCar series schedule for next year revealed 17 races, including one in Barcelona. The nation’s capital was not on the list.
“This summer’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix was an incredible event that was always intended to be a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of our country’s 250th birthday,” the race’s organizers said in a statement.
The 1.7-mile race track along the National Mall marked the United States’ 250th anniversary in August. President Trump and and first lady Melania Trump attended the race.
Kyle Kirkwood, who is from Florida and races for Andretti Global, won the race.
Organizers thanked fans, event partners and agencies that helped make the grand prix happen.
“We were honored to host this unique weekend salute to America with an epic IndyCar race on the streets of our nation’s capital and we are proud of the success and the impact of the event across our sport, Washington D.C. and throughout our country,” the organizers’ statement read.
