In a bizarre and disturbing twist, the NFL announced Wednesday morning that it has suspended another Buffalo Bills’ defensive back for spitting at a Las Vegas Raiders’ player in the Bills’ 33-30 victory.
The league suspended defensive back/special teamer Sam Franklin for spitting. He will serve a one-game suspension against the Baltimore Ravens when the Bills returner from their by after Week 7. Monday, the NFL suspended Buffalo defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson for spitting.
Gardner-Johnson eject before halftime for spitting in the direction of Raiders’ tight end Brock Bowers. Gardner-Johnson was also suspended for the Baltimore game.
Franklin’s incident occurred with 1:32 remaining in the game after a Raiders’ extra point on their final touchdown. Franklin is reportedly denying the act and will appeal the suspension. Video shows Franklin and Raiders’ tackle D.J. Glaze having a confrontation after the kick.
The NFL is cracking down on such incidents, but it is highly unusual for two players from the same team to get such suspensions.
