Bloomfield police said they have taken a Hartford man into custody in connection with the fatal crash that killed a tow truck driver.
Police said they served an arrest warrant on 28-year-old Curran Melanson at his Hartford home on Monday.
He was charged with second-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence, and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.
The charges stem from a crash on Sept. 8 that killed 26-year-old Alexander Ramos, a tow truck operator and father of two. Police responded to the 300 block of Tunxis Avenue around 7:37 p.m. that night for a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they found Ramos lying unresponsive in the roadway near a tow truck. He had suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A 2009 Honda Civic involved in the crash was found overturned on Tunxis Avenue, just south of where Ramos was struck. The driver remained at the scene and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad took over the investigation.
According to police, investigators executed search warrants to inspect the Honda Civic’s mechanical and electronic systems and obtain the driver’s medical records.
An investigator submitted an arrest warrant affidavit for judicial review around Sept. 14.
The warrant for Melanson was approved on Thursday, nearly a month after the crash, and police said they were actively working to arrest him.
His bond has been set at $425,000.
