Strip club at former Electric Blue in Tolland closes after losing liquor permit

A strip club that moved into the former Electric Blue strip club in Tolland also closed its doors earlier this year.

For 35 years, Electric Blue was a strip club in Tolland on Marrow Road. A state police raid in 2023 found evidence of prostitution and later investigators found proof of tax fraud. As part of a plea deal, the club’s owner facing charges for those crimes sold the club. According to the town’s GIS data, the club sold for three million dollars.

A new strip club, called the Den Cabaret, moved in. It was a “premier upscale urban gentlemen’s club”, according to its website and while it was open, several complaints were made.

In March, special agents with the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) went undercover and found that dancers exposed themselves while the cub served alcohol, violating state law.

A memorandum of decision from DCP details instances where dancers invited undercover agents to touch their exposed body parts, which is also against the law. In Connecticut, dancers are required to wear at least pasties and g-strings if alcohol is being served.

The State Liquor Control Commission revoked the Den Cabaret’s liquor license after finding nine counts of state violations and according to state records, the business was dissolved in August.

“If you want your business to run correctly, you got to follow all the rules and everything. Play by the book,” Aayan Khalifa, a shop owner across from the shop said. “Everyone here in the Plaza would just love to see anything here. If it’s open correctly, you could have strip club here, sports bar, whatever you want.”

Chris Moran, the chair of the town council, shared a statement when asked if the town would approve of another strip club in the Marrow Road building:

“Tolland welcomes and supports businesses in town. They are an integral part of our community, often owned and run by our neighbors. We have great restaurants, stores, and other establishments. Like any community, we expect that our businesses will follow the law and be good neighbors to Tolland residents. The Town Council has a responsibility to ensure our community is safe, including requiring our businesses to comply with all laws and regulations.“

There’s no word of a new buyer for the club yet.
