A blowout loss to Florida caused Ole Miss to drop to ninth in the latest Associated Press top 25 released on Sunday.

The Rebels (3-1, 1-1 SEC) were previously ranked No. 4 before losing its first game of the season on the road to the now No. 8 ranked Florida Gators.

Ole Miss’ win over LSU is still carrying a lot of weight with many of the voters. Florida leapt up 13 spots in the poll from last week while SEC members Texas and Georgia remained first and second respectively. The Rebels are the second highest ranked one loss team in the country after Ohio State (No. 5).

Remaining on Ole Miss’ schedule are games versus No. 25 Missouri, No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia and No. 16 Mississippi State.

So the playoff picture is becoming a little more clear with every passing week. It seems right now Ole Miss needs to win nearly all of its remaining games to have a second consecutive berth in the CFP. A loss at Texas would not crater the season, but coupled with a loss at home to Georgia, it may put the Rebels in a precarious position depending on the rest of the SEC’s outcomes.

Five of the teams in the SEC are undefeated headed into week five with No. 7 Alabama visiting No. 16 MSU, No. 2 Georgia hosting Vanderbilt, No. 8 Florida traveling to No. 25 Missouri and Texas on a bye week.
