Maryland men’s and women’s golf participated in separate tournaments from Sept. 21-22. Each team posted strong showings, as the men tied for fifth while the women placed in sixth.
Maryland men’s golf finished the Highlands Invitational in Westchester, Illinois with a score of 874 strokes, recording 10 strokes over the par. The first round was led by freshman duo Charles David Beeson and Robby Rosati, who both recorded 72 strokes. The squad finished the round with 292 strokes.
Entering the second round, Maryland carried the same stat line of 292 strokes at the end of the round. Senior Emil Riegger recorded a strong five under for the round.
Completing the final round were the men’s best results, with 290 total strokes. Riegger led the way with 70 strokes.
The women’s team finished with 914 strokes at the Canadians Collegiate Invitational, recording 50 strokes over the tournament par. Junior Chananyu Chowiwattana led the Terps in the first round with 72 strokes. Maryland recorded 308 strokes in the first round.
Placing and tied at 11th, graduate Nicha Kanpai recorded a team-low 71 strokes in round two. Maryland logged 302 strokes, the lowest out of its three rounds.
A steady and final 304 strokes solidified Maryland’s placement, with Kanpai leading the round with 71 strokes.
Four different Terps landed in the top 35, marking one of their best finishes in the young season.
